With over 15,000 satisfied patients renowned Facial Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Shoib A. Myint, performs this procedure using a fine cutting laser which leaves less bruising and swelling after surgery!

Eyelid surgery, also known as a “blepharoplasty,” is designed to help treat tired, drooping eyelids by removing loose skin and fat deposits from the upper and lower eyelid areas. Ideal candidates for eyelid surgery are in good emotional and physical health and have realistic expectations for their surgery.

Eyes are a prominent facial feature. It is the surrounding skin, rather than the eyes themselves, that conveys emotion. The tissue, muscle, fat, hair and lashes all contribute to the wide array of expressions. Age, sun exposure and hereditary factors all contribute to wrinkles, deep lines and puffiness around the eyes.

What is blepharoplasty (or Droopy Eyelid Surgery)?

Blepharoplasty (pronounced blef’-ah-roplas-te) is plastic surgery to remove excess skin from the upper and/or lower eyelids. Sagging eyebrows may be corrected at the same time. Eyelid surgery is done to improve visual function and/or cosmetic appearance by giving you a more youthful, bright-eyed look.

How to Determine Whether you Need Eyelid Surgery

Your field of vision can be limited by an excess of eyelid tissue. If you think of your eyes as your screen to the world, your eyelids are the shades that can pull down over that screen and limit your vision. Here is a simple way to tell if blepharoplasty would benefit you: Take your fingers and lift your upper eyelids. Does your field of vision improve? Does your vision brighten? If it does, you may be a good candidate for the procedure.

Blepharoplasty (or Droopy Eyelid Surgery)

Although many plastic surgeons perform blepharoplasty, an ophthalmologist is the only surgeon specifically trained to treat the eye. Both the function and lubrication of your eyes can be affected by blepharoplasty, so it’s important to see a skilled, experienced ophthalmologist.

Eyelid surgery is done at Yaldo Eye Center’s on-site outpatient surgical facility. A local anesthesia is used to numb your eyelids and Valium is administered to keep you relaxed and comfortable during the procedure. Your skilled surgeon will determine the exact amount of excess skin and fat and mark upper and lower incision lines along the skin’s natural creases. These incision lines generally extend into the “crow’s feet” or “smile lines” at the eye’s outer edge so that they will be less visible after the skin has healed. The lower incisions are usually made on the inner part of the eyelid. These techniques give a more natural, less “plastic” look to your eyes and leave no visible outer eyelid scarring.

Typically, results from eyelid surgery are very successful. Of course, the extent of corrective work, your skin structure, the healing process, hereditary factors, age and other physical characteristics are all factors that affect the end results.

Surgery of the upper eyelids to improve vision is normally covered by most insurance plans. Talk to the vision experts at Yaldo Eye Center about how blepharoplasty could improve both your vision and appearance.
