Very few of us make it through life without needing vision correction of some kind. Here are the various vision issues:
Myopia is a synonym for nearsightedness which means that light rays now focus at a point in front of the retina. People with Myopia see best close up and experience blurriness at distance and mid-range. It is corrected by flattening the cornea. Based upon age and prescription, Lasik, Lasek, Implantable Contact Lenses or Clear Lens Exchange with Multifocal Lenses may be recommended.
Hyperopia is a synonym for farsightedness which means that light rays focus at a point behind the retina. People with hyperopia see best at a distance but may experience blurriness at all focal points. Hyperopia is corrected by making the cornea steeper. Lasik, Lasek and Clear Lens Exchange with Multifocal Lenses may be considered based upon your age and prescription.
Astigmatism refers to an irregularly shaped cornea which causes light rays to be focused at different points and results in blurry vision both near and far. Astigmatism may also distort vision or cause double vision, halos or glare. Astigmatism is corrected by making the cornea more spherical. Lasik or Lasek may be used depending upon your prescription.
Presbyopia eventually affects most people over 40. As the lens loses its natural flexibility, the eye loses its ability to switch between distant and near focal points. There are a variety of vision correction alternatives for presbyopia, including Monovision Lasik or Lasek, PresbyLasik or Clear Lens Exchange with Multifocal Lenses.
