Since Dr. Yaldo opened the first Yaldo Eye Center nearly 25 years ago, his skill and fascination with the precision and effectiveness of Lasik fueled his emerging status as one of the top lasik surgeons in Michigan. Along with advanced training and education, Dr. Yaldo’s status as an expert in the field of laser eye surgery and advanced vision correction quickly grew. 

Today, each of the Yaldo Eye Centers works with patients to assess their vision correction needs and present the most current corrective options. It’s our goal to stay abreast of the latest technology and advancements to treat nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), presbyopia, cataracts, and astigmatism. 

Along with an initial free evaluation, patients will benefit from expert consultation and advice about the advanced vision correction procedures that are best suited to one’s age, lifestyle, and eyes.

Meet Dr. Yaldo

Dr. Yaldo is a board-certified Ophthalmologist and laser surgeon whose expertise, skill and reputation have made him a leader in the industry. This has been earned through athletes, radio personalities and other celebrities trusting to be their surgeon. After graduating with distinction from the University of Michigan in 1983, Dr. Yaldo attended medical school at Wayne State University in Detroit, where he received his medical degree with Alpha Omega Alpha honors recognition. Following his internship at William Beaumont Hospital, Dr. Yaldo finished his residency in Ophthalmology at the renowned Kresge Eye Institute. He completed his post-doctorate fellowship in Glaucoma and Complicated Cataracts at Pacific Presbyterian Medical Center in San Francisco. Then at Minnesota Eye Consultants, Dr. Yaldo further advanced his education and training in the field of refractive and vision correction surgery.

Dr. Yaldo stays at the forefront of modern technology and techniques in vision correction surgery. Dr. Yaldo is firmly committed to providing the highest quality care and greatest results to every Yaldo Eye Center Patient.

Since graduating with distinction from the University of Michigan in 1983, Dr. Mazin Yaldo has continued to distinguish himself as one of the leading LASIK and cataract surgeons in Detroit and the country.

For three consecutive years, from 2011 through 2013, Dr. Yaldo was selected as “LASIK Surgeon of the Year” by the esteemed Consumer’s Research Council of America, a Washington, D.C.-based research organization providing consumer information on obtaining the finest professional services in the U.S.

Dr. Yaldo earned Alpha Omega Alpha honors from Wayne State University and completed his ophthalmology residency at the renowned Kresge Eye Institute. He followed up his residency with a post-doctorate fellowship in glaucoma and complicated cataracts at Pacific Presbyterian Medical Center in San Francisco.

In becoming one of Michigan’s most prominent eye surgeons, he has performed some 30,000 LASIK eye surgery procedures—likely the most of any surgeon in Michigan.

Among his many credentials, Dr. Yaldo has been a pioneer in advancing LASIK technology.

Notable milestones include:


  • First surgeon in Michigan to perform Presby-LASIK in 2007, expanding laser vision correction options for patients with age-related near vision loss
  • Played a key role in the development and refinement of Customized Aspheric Treatment Zone (CATz) technology over several years
  • First surgeon in Michigan to perform the FDA-approved topography-guided LASIK procedure known as Customized Aspheric Treatment Zone (CATz) in June 2014, performed on a local firefighter
  • Among the first surgeons in the United States to offer CATz as a new gold standard in LASIK surgery
  • First in Michigan to perform multifocal lens implants in patients previously deemed non-candidates by other surgeons—including pilots and individuals with prior Radial Keratotomy (RK)—in 2017
  • First surgeon in Michigan to perform implantation of the latest STAAR Surgical EVO Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) in 2022
  • First in Michigan to perform the ClearView multifocal lens by Lenstec Inc. in 2023

CATz is by far the most precise LASIK technology available, and it represents a huge leap forward in this industry,” says Dr. Yaldo. “I am proud to have played a role in its development.

As of 2025, Dr. Yaldo remains the only surgeon in Michigan performing Presby LASIK successfully—an advanced and highly specialized procedure designed to correct presbyopia and reduce dependence on reading glasses. This technique is currently performed by only 3 to 4 surgeons nationwide.
