CATz Topography Guided Lasik

Consultations offered at our three convenient locations in Farmington Hills, Garden City and Rochester Hills, MI

Customized Aspheric Treatment Zone (CATz) LASIK is a highly specialized variation of LASIK that uses cutting-edge laser technology to restore sharper, clearer multifocal vision in patients. This procedure creates a custom map of your corneal surface using more than 7,000 points of light, making it the most precise LASIK treatment available worldwide. By using a more precise map of your cornea, the laser eye surgery is more customized for your individual refractive error compared to standard LASIK used elsewhere and therefore many patients experience vision outcomes better than 20/20.

There are only a small number of surgeons in the U.S. who are currently trained and certified to offer topography-guided LASIK, one of whom is Dr. Mazin Yaldo of Yaldo Eye Center!

Dr. Yaldo is one of Michigan’s most prominent board-certified ophthalmologists and laser surgeons, and he has nearly 25 years of experience performing laser eye surgery. He was the first surgeon in Michigan to perform the FDA-approved CATz topography-guided LASIK procedure, and he also played a significant role in the development of this technology. Currently, Dr. Yaldo is the only eye surgeon in Southeast Michigan who can perform this procedure.

If you are ready to meet with Dr. Yaldo and explore this advanced LASIK option, please call (248) 553-9800 or contact us online. We provide consultations at all three of our offices, which are conveniently located in Farmington Hills, Rochester Hills, and Garden City.

About CATz Topography-Guided LASIK

Customized Aspheric Treatment Zone (CATz) topography-guided LASIK is an advanced procedure that can help you achieve vision clearer than 20/20.

The pattern of visual imperfections in your eye is as unique to you as your own fingerprint, and each one can affect the way your eyes refract light. Certain imperfections can cause glare or halos, while others can lead to astigmatism and blurriness.

Dr. Yaldo can perform CATz topography-guided LASIK to address each of these concerns in one procedure session. This procedure creates a topographic map of your corneal surface using more than 7,000 points of light. With this guide, Dr. Yaldo can create a tailored treatment plan that addresses even the smallest distortions and depressions in your eyes.

“CATz is by far the most precise LASIK technology available, and it represents a huge leap forward,” notes Dr. Yaldo. “I am proud to have played a role in its development over the past several years. I’m also delighted to be one of the first surgeons in Michigan to offer what is now the new gold standard for LASIK.”

Candidates

You may be an ideal candidate for CATz topography-guided LASIK if you are interested in restoring clear, multifocal vision beyond what traditional LASIK can offer. While the majority of LASIK candidates qualify for both traditional and topography-guided variations, the latter can most effectively address nearsighted vision, farsighted vision, and astigmatism. It may also provide certain improvements in your night vision.

To qualify, you should be in good general health and possess realistic expectations regarding your results. It is also important that you maintain a nicotine-free lifestyle or are willing to quit.

Personal Consultation

At an initial consultation, Dr. Yaldo will meet with you to discuss your candidacy and create your treatment plan. During this meeting, he will converse with you openly about your medical history, any previous eye procedure(s) you have undergone, and your personal concerns and goals. He will then examine your ocular anatomy, assess your vision, and use the CATz technology to create a topographic map of your cornea. This map will measure 7,000 individual points in your eye and create a precise guide of where treatment is required.

Throughout the consultation, Dr. Yaldo will also answer any questions you may have about CATz topography-guided LASIK or the technology used during the procedure. This consultation is time exclusively dedicated to you, and we want you to leave feeling informed, confident, and excited about your vision restoration process.

If you are ready to schedule this consultation and start working towards clearer, sharper vision, please contact us online or call (248) 553-9800 to reach our offices in Farmington Hills, Rochester Hills, and Garden City.

Preparation

Once you have scheduled your procedure, Dr. Yaldo will give you a set of detailed pre-operative instructions to help you prepare. These instructions may vary depending on the details of your treatment plan, but you can generally expect him to direct you to:

  • Stop Wearing Contacts: Refrain from wearing corrective lenses for at least one to two weeks before your procedure.
  • Arrange Transportation: Have a trusted friend or relative drive you home after your procedure.
  • Prepare Time Away: Make arrangements to step away from your professional and personal commitments during your recovery.
  • Arrive Ready: Attend your procedure with clean skin free of makeup or skincare products around the eyes.

Procedure

Dr. Yaldo performs each procedure on an outpatient basis at his surgical center. When you arrive at your appointment, Dr. Yaldo will meet with you one last time to discuss each detail of your procedure. He will then administer anesthetic eye drops. If you are undergoing more extensive corrections, you will receive the necessary medications to keep you relaxed.

After it has taken effect, Dr. Yaldo will use the laser to create a flap on the eye’s surface to give himself access to the underlying corneal tissues. He will then remove microscopic amounts of tissue from the cornea, using the topographic map as a guide. This will allow your eyes to refract light differently, leaving you with clearer vision overall. Once Dr. Yaldo has smoothed out each distortion, he will carefully place the flap back, where it will naturally adhere to the eye without any need for sutures.

Recovery

During your recovery, you will need to take a step away from your responsibilities to give your eyes time to heal. You may experience some initial side effects such as blurred vision, dryness, or sensitivity to light, but these effects will fade as you heal.

You may return to work after resting for a few days, but Dr. Yaldo may still ask that you avoid wearing contact lenses or participating in any physical activities until he provides clearance.

Dr. Yaldo will give you a detailed set of written instructions when meeting with you in person. By following each of these guidelines, you can ensure a safe and quick return to your routine.

Results

After you have fully recovered, you will be able to enjoy clearer and sharper vision at both near and distant lengths, with a reduced or eliminated need for glasses or contact lenses. The procedure will clear any glaring or halos you may have previously struggled with, and you may also experience improvements in your night vision. (1) In 93% of cases, this procedure produces 20/20 vision, (2) but certain patients may also achieve “Super Vision,” where they can see better than 20/20.

FAQ

What is the difference between CATz topography-guided LASIK and traditional LASIK?

CATz Topography-Guided LASIK creates a map of your cornea using nearly 7,000 points of light to identify irregularities. Dr. Yaldo then uses a laser to smooth any uneven areas of your eyes and address your vision concerns. Traditional LASIK uses a small surgical blade to access the underlying structures of your eyes before using a laser to perform each correction. Traditional LASIK additionally corrects your eyesight based on your glasses or contact lens prescription instead of a reading or scan of the eye itself.

Can CATz topography-guided LASIK address both near-sighted and far-sighted vision?

Yes, Dr. Yaldo can perform CATz Topography-Guided LASIK to address near-sighted vision, far-sighted vision, as well as astigmatism.

Can Dr. Yaldo perform CATz Topography-Guided LASIK on both eyes within one procedure?

Yes, Dr. Yaldo can effectively treat both of your eyes within one treatment session.

Will my CATz Topography-Guided LASIK hurt?

While you may experience some discomfort as your eyes heal, the procedure itself will not hurt. This is because Dr. Yaldo provides each patient with topical anesthetic eye drops and, if necessary, prescription medications.

How long will it take to recover after CATz Topography-Guided LASIK?

After your procedure, you can return to work after resting for several days. However, Dr. Yaldo may ask you to continue avoiding contact lenses, makeup use, or strenuous activities for several more weeks.

How long will the results of CATz Topography-Guided LASIK last?

The results of your procedure will be permanent, allowing you to freely live your life without the need for repeated treatments or follow-up appointments.
