Premium cataract lenses, also known as intraocular lenses (IOLs), are ocular implants that can correct your vision when you are undergoing cataract surgery. These implants can replace the clear lens of the eye after its removal and help your eyes distribute light more efficiently, leading to improvements in your vision across multiple distances. (1)
About Cataracts
Cataracts are a slow-progressing eye disease in which the clear eye lens becomes cloudy or opaque. This disease can affect one or both eyes and cause obscurity or fuzziness in your vision. (2) Cataracts are the most common reversible cause of blindness, as they affect over 95 million people worldwide. (3) Several effective treatment methods are widely available to help you restore your eyesight, including premium cataract lenses.
Benefits
Premium cataract lenses offer several benefits beyond just improving eye health, including:
- Enhanced Vision: The primary benefit of premium cataract lenses is their ability to improve your vision at varying distances and degrees.
- Toric Options: Dr. Yaldo offers toric lenses, which are specialized lenses that can refract light differently to address astigmatism.
- Long-Lasting Results: The results of cataract surgery are permanent, making this procedure a worthwhile investment for many patients.
- Customized Solutions: Dr. Yaldo and his team fully customize each aspect of the procedure around your optical health, eye measurements, and lifestyle needs.
- Quick Procedure Time: This procedure is short in duration, with Dr. Yaldo taking less than thirty minutes per eye.
Candidates
You may want to consider premium cataract lenses if you possess cataracts and are interested in cataract surgery, but are interested in more than just basic vision correction. This can include reducing reliance on glasses, correcting astigmatism, achieving multifocal clarity, and more.
To qualify for your procedure, you should be in good general health and maintain realistic expectations regarding your results. You should also have healthy corneas and stable eye anatomy. Dr. Yaldo and his team will assess your candidacy during your personal consultation.
Personal Consultation
Before undergoing your cataract surgery, you will need to attend a personal consultation with Dr. Yaldo to create your personalized treatment plan. During this meeting, he will meet with you individually to explain what premium cataract lenses are and learn more about your medical history, personal concerns, and vision goals. He will also perform several advanced tests, such as ultrasound biometry, to measure the power of your vision, the axial length of your eye, your pupil dynamics, corneal curvature, eye health, and more.
Dr. Yaldo will use this information to determine the best approach for your concerns, as well as the best lens for your case. As he creates your treatment plan, he will explain each step and detail to give you a full understanding of your procedure. He will also take the time to answer any questions you may have. Through this specialized combination of open listening, evaluation, and discussion, Dr. Yaldo will be able to provide you with a fully personalized approach to enhancing your optical health.

Preparation
After scheduling your procedure, you will need to make certain preparations to ready yourself, optimize treatment, and reduce stress. To help you, Dr. Yaldo will provide a full set of instructions. He may direct you to:
- Avoid Using Contacts: Refrain from wearing any daily or monthly contact lenses leading up to your appointment.
- Use Eyedrops: Use any eyedrops that Dr. Yaldo provides you as directed to ensure your eyes are clean for your procedure.
- Prepare Transportation: Arrange a ride home from a trusted friend or family member, as you will not be able to drive yourself.
- Arrange Time Away: Request time away from your commitments, career, and other responsibilities to allow yourself to heal.
- Adjust Your Routine: Refrain from wearing any makeup or using harsh skin products around your eyes to avoid irritating your skin.
Procedure
Dr. Yaldo places premium cataract lenses during cataract surgery and performs each procedure on an outpatient basis at his surgical center. To elevate your comfort throughout the procedure, you will receive numbing eye drops before treatment begins.
Dr. Yaldo will then place a small incision on each eye to access your cataracts before carefully removing them. He may perform this step using several different techniques, depending on your personal concerns and anatomy. Dr. Yaldo will then insert your premium cataract lens into the same space the previous lens was in, between the iris and pupil of your eye. The lens will then unfold into position where it will remain fixed. Once Dr. Yaldo places the lens, he will allow you to rest under the care of his team.
Recovery
After your cataract surgery, you may experience some mild sensitivity or dryness. These effects are temporary and will subside relatively quickly. To ease your discomfort and prevent any infections, Dr. Yaldo will provide medicated eyedrops.
You will begin to notice clearer vision within 24 to 48 hours after your procedure; however, you will need to take some time away from your responsibilities to allow your eyes to heal. You may return to light activities and desk work after resting for several days, but you will need to refrain from any physically demanding or vigorous tasks until Dr. Yaldo allows you to return. He may also ask you to return for follow-up appointments as your eyes adapt to their new optics to ensure everything develops correctly.
Dr. Yaldo will provide you with a full set of post-operative instructions to help you navigate your recovery. If any questions arise, we ask that you contact us so that our team can provide you with any information and guidance you may need.
Results
After a full recovery, you will be able to experience the full results of your procedure. You will be able to enjoy clearer, more accurate vision across varying distances, as well as a lessened need for glasses. You will be able to enjoy improvements in your visual acuity, contrast, and depth perception when viewing objects, making it easier for you to drive, read, watch television, recognize people, and enjoy life. Many patients also report improvements in their mental and emotional well-being, as well as their social interactions. (4)
Your premium cataract lens procedure will yield permanent results. By undergoing this procedure, you will be able to enjoy decades of clarity. Your results will also be multifocal, allowing you to live life more freely rather than being constrained to a single focal range.
The cost of your premium cataract lenses can vary depending on several aspects of your treatment plan. These can include the type of lenses you receive, your personal goals, and more. Once Dr. Yaldo has met with you to discuss each of these factors and establish your treatment plan, he will provide a comprehensive cost estimate. Financing is also available to make treatment more accessible.

FAQ
Yes, we offer a wide range of different toric lenses to address astigmatism.
Premium cataract lenses can be a reliable substitute for daily glasses use, although some patients still prefer wearing their glasses when completing certain tasks or functions.
How can you measure the correct lens power for my lenses?
Dr. Yaldo will measure your eye using ultrasound biometry. This is a process that uses acoustic waves to measure the power of your cornea, the axial length of your eye, as well as several other parameters to determine the ideal lenses. (5)
After your procedure, you will need to take several days away from your responsibilities to focus on resting your eyes. Once your eyes start adjusting to their new optics, you may resume most of your daily activities.
Premium cataract lenses provide permanent results that you can enjoy for decades to come.
